Fats are essentials fatty acids in our diet and is also a source of energy for us. It’s used in our bodies to keep us warm, protection for our vital organs, used to build nerve tissue, which includes the brain, nerves, and hormones, and to carry fat-soluble vitamins.

The liquid which is at room temperature is called unsaturated fats. Their chemical structure contains one or more double bonds, and they can be further classified as monounsaturated. They are usually found in plants and fish. These are good for your heart.

There are no double bonds in the chemical structure of saturated fats. They are saturated with hydrogen atoms because they have a solid consistency when at room temperature. They are usually found in meat, baking goods and other animal products, such as cheese and palm oils. Overeating saturated fats can raise the blood cholesterol levels and increase the chance of getting heart disease.

Found in stick margarine, they are also found in certain foods you buy at a store or in a restaurant. Usually, if you check the ingredient list, you’ll see hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.
