All of us wants the best for our children. As parents or teachers, we want our children to be kind to others, and that is one of our highest hopes. We never want them to end up growing up to be cruel, racist or intolerant. But let’s face it. It’s not always easy to be kind, especially when that person has done bad things to you.

Good news is that kindness can be learned and trained.

Why Is It Important To Be Kind To Others

In today’s world, many seemed to judge whoever they meet or wherever they go. Unkindness isn’t a new thing among us, and we have been doing so since ancient times.

But now, children are not able to see the big picture and usually focuses on the present and not the future. They do not realise the effect of what meanness or bullying can have on other kids.

This doesn’t mean that children are naturally unkind. In fact, children usually have empathy for others. As parents, you can take advantage of and encourage kids to think about others before they act and teach them how to practice kindness in their everyday lives.

Here Are Some Ways Parents Can Teach Kids To Practice Kindness

1. Smile
According to a study conducted in Sweden, whenever others look at those who smile, their muscles involuntarily twitch into a smile. You can play a game with your child which involves smiling to show them how smiling indeed is contagious. Smiling is the purest act which can be spread far and wide.

2. Magic word
Teach your children important magic words, such as, thank you and please. Teaching good manners is also an important part of raising a kind child.

3. Lead by example
Be a role model for your children. Make sure that you are kind to others. Treat one another with respect and embody strong morals and values. Talk about it if someone is being kind and explain why their act of kindness mattered.

4. Practice random acts of kindness
Random act of kindness is something that will make someone’s day a little brighter, and that can be anything. The other person doesn’t even have to know who did it. Sometimes, challenge your kids to perform random acts of kindness once in a while.

5. Share stories of kindness
There are tons of great stories you can choose from. Choose those with kindness themes. Stories are a powerful and influential way for kids to learn without teaching them directly.

Being kind to others doesn’t only makes you, but others feel good too. Kindness does not only lift up one’s mood, but it will also help him grow to be a happy and loving person. What are you waiting for? Together, we can make the world a better place.
