Stop Comparing Your Child! They Don't Deserve It! - October 2026

Stop comparing your child to his or her siblings or any other child! Comparing your child is a common practice to boost the performance of a child. Every parent does that. Every parent wants the best for their child but unconsciously, you are actually harming your child, and that’s bad. Why do I say so? That’s because comparing your child will put pressure on them and it will also affect their performance. Therefore, if you are being pushy, stop whatever you’re doing and hear me out. Here are some reasons why you should stop comparing your child Mother, Baby & Kids 1. Every child has their own strengths and weaknesses Every parent tends to forget what their child can do. They always see what the child can’t do when they compare to others. When we look at other people’s child, we still feel like ours should be doing more. Let’s get to the point. What I am trying to say is that please focus on your child’s strengths and wait for other skills and talent to come when they are ready. Don’t push them as they have their limits. 2. Lower self-esteem Your kid will tend to believe that others are better than him and that he will not be able to perform better and to hit the expectations of his parent. This feeling is very damaging for them not only mentally but physically, and it will surely affect his growth. Credit: Mother, Baby & Kids 3. Distance relationship from parents Over time, your child will become distance from you if you don’t stop the comparison game. And if your child is facing any problems, they may even hesitate to share it with you. It is very important that you can identify and address his or her insecurities and help him or her throughout their journey. 4. Gender plays a big part According to research, science has proven that gender plays a big role in a child’s development and this cannot be ignored. Girls are more prone to excel in speaking and learning at an early age and boys are usually more active than girls. Therefore, comparing boys and girls isn’t fair for them. Credit: CDC 5. Suppressed talents Your little one is talented at arts, and you want him to go for football practices. If his ability isn’t appreciated by you and your spouse, and that he goes for practices with a terrible mood, he will not do well and eventually, he won’t be able to have room to grow, and he will eventually lose it. The secret of raising a successful and happy child is to let them grow naturally and support them throughout their journey. Remember, you can’t be a perfect parent, so don’t expect your child to be perfect. Everyone has their own unique personality. Just be proud of who they are and what they want. Give them all the support they need so that you can build and raise a confidently happy child of your own. For more articles, stories, and products: browse through our website www.mamahood.com.sg
