Government polyclinics and private clinics make up the primary healthcare in Singapore. While making up only 20% of the primary healthcare, polyclinics provide subsidised outpatient medical care, health screening, and pharmacy services.
Some polyclinics offer dental services as well.
As of mid-2021, there are 20 polyclinics that can be found throughout the island and these are managed by three primary arms of the public healthcare clusters. They are National Healthcare Group (NHG), Singapore Health Services (SingHealth), and the latest one being National University Polyclinics (NUP).
Primary Care Services Provided by Polyclinics
Polyclinics in Singapore offer affordable and subsidised health services including:
- Outpatient medical treatment
- Medical follow-ups after discharge from hospital
- Maternal and child health
- Immunisation
- Health screening and education
- Diagnostic and pharmaceutical services
Patients can be referred from the polyclinics to hospitals, where they can receive more specialised treatment and be warded if necessary.

Things To Take Note of Before Visiting Polyclinics
Before you decide to visit a polyclinic near you, make sure you remember to do a few things before doing so, including:
- planning your visit and making appointments earlier, as this may help reduce the time spent waiting. Priority is usually given to those who have made appointments beforehand. Polyclinic appointments can be made online or by calling their hotline or call centre.
- bringing your identification card, either NRIC or work permit, along with your polyclinic appointment card if you have received one before, and any medical benefit documents for every visit.
- finding out payment methods available at the polyclinic of your choosing as they may differ from one polyclinic to another.
