Pack up the family and explore every nook and corner of Singapore (you may even find yourself in parts you’ve never been) while you go on an adventure to treasure hunt. Have you heard of Geocaching?

It’s the world’s largest treasure hunt and all you need to do is download the app, create your account and bundle the family up, all ready to explore clues all over the city. Read all about this secret yet public treasure hunt experience, and see if your family is up to the fun and challenge.

If you have very young children and not to up an outdoor treasure hunt yet, you can always create your own treasure hunt at home for your loved ones. Half the preparation is in the fun to create clues and find hiding places.

Fall back on your family experiences and memories to use as clues, and you can even use your child’s treasured items or toys to hide. Once your little ones are hooked to this family fun, you can create more hunts every other week or so. Endless fun for everyone!

2. Go Glamping

How about a night or two away, camping outdoors with your family but with modern day facilities available? With very young children, camping may not be easy, so glamping might hit the right notes with your family.

There are several options, so do some research and see what suits your family best. Whether you want to do glamping by the beach or simply on greens, take your pick and have a field day out of it.

It’s definitely an experience to remember especially if it’s the first of its kind for your child. For starters, you can also create a simple camp site at home for a night to get your child initiated and build excitement for the real thing. Set up your own tent in your selected spot at home, fit in sleeping bags or throw in mattresses and cozy up in it for a night.

3. Go On A Historical Walkabout

There are many interesting historical places to visit in Singapore. Make a day of it, and at the same time you can teach your little one some history about Singapore. It’s a lot more interesting to learn history while you’re at the sites itself.

Spend a day or spread into an entire weekend’s worth of activity to visit these historical sites. Pack enough snacks and drinks for the day out as well.

At the same time, you can play tourist in your own city and add on a couple more modern day attractions to visit to intersperse with the older sites. There are plenty of good mixes of the latest attractions to visit.

Just be mindful while spending the day out, and keep everyone safe by adhering to safety measures and wearing masks and sanitising well.

4. Create Family Scrapbooks

One fun indoor activity that can be done as a family is to make beautiful scrapbooks together. You can create travel scrapbooks on places you’ve visited together. You can even create one for some of the experiences suggested above once you’re done visiting them.

It’s a great way to reminisce those memories and put them down into a book that all of you can look back on anytime. It unleashes everyone’s creativity too in putting all the materials into the scrapbooks.

Involve everyone in the activity, from deciding which book to use and finding materials to put into it. Find photos together to print out and decide on which memento you can spare to put into the scrapbook.

You can even make a scrapbook of future places that your family would like to visit. Do research together and put in all the KIV attractions that you want to go to. This may well be your guiding itinerary when you’re ready to travel once again and you’ve got all the background work done!

5. Enjoy a Family Cook-Out

One fun indoor activity that we can all do together is to have a family cook-out. Let it be a day of treat, and get everyone to plan the big feast menu together. Part of the fun is in planning the menu. Perhaps you may want to make exception for some foods that aren’t normally allowed, as a treat day for everyone.

You can flip through recipes or magazines to find ideas together, or simply have everyone list their favourite foods. Then, make a purposeful and fun trip to buy your groceries together. Make a shopping list of everything you will need and have everyone shop together so share the fun. Often, little things like this that involves together in making decisions are the more precious memories to our little ones.

On the day of the cook-out, let everyone do their part according to what’s appropriate for their skill set. This way, it’s a team effort and everyone gets to enjoy making food together. It could be making pies and pizzas from scratch with dough and toppings or fillings, or making treats like cookies and candies like gummy bears.

As the adults finish off with the cooking part that children can’t be a part of, let the little ones have fun with the table-setting. Let them make a craft of folding napkins and arranging and decorating the meal table. Then, enjoy your hearty meal and let happy and fun conversations flow around the table as you enjoy your labour of love making that delicious and special family meal!
