As parents, preparing arts and crafts projects to do at home doesn’t have to be a complicated affair. Here are some easy arts and crafts for kids you can do fairly easily.
A Stationery Holder
Making a stationery holder from old toilet roll cores is both fun and environmentally friendly. You can gather several old toilet roll tubes of the same and get your child to paint them. They can also decorate them with stickers of paint cute animals on them.
Alternatively, you can also cut out animal parts, like wings, feet and tails to add them to the painted toilet paper rolls and create a cute animal. Several toilet rolls can be glued together to form a larger animal too.
Paper Mache Bowls
For these bowls, all you need are some balloons and newspaper or magazine paper. Tear the paper up into small pieces and soak them in some clean water. Prepare some glue on a plate and blow up the balloons to any size your desire. The glue you use should preferably be white glue.
Get your children to help in the preparation on the torn paper. When the paper is ready and soaked, just take the pieces, rub glue on both sides with a brush and stick them to the upper rounded half of the balloon, layering them until they form a stiff surface. You may want to tape the balloon onto a container to help it remain still.
Once you’ve layered several layers of paper, let it dry overnight. The next day, pop the balloon and trim the edges. You can now paint the paper bowl with your kids.
Shaping Paper Clay
Paper clay is relatively inexpensive and readily available at craft stores. When they’re fresh out their packaging, they’re slightly damp and have a similar consistency as modeling clay.
Once they’re shaped they can be air dried overnight, at which time they will harden. They can now be painted with acrylic paint.
Vegetable Stamping
If you have bits and pieces of raw vegetables left over from lunch or dinner, don’t throw them away. They can be a source for some artful masterpieces for your children.
The sliced parts of a bell pepper, ladies fingers, potato or carrot can be dipped in paint and stamped onto some drawing paper. Even the tops of cauliflowers or broccoli make some interesting textures to stamp with.
