Kids never say a word about getting bullied. Not to mention family, they even keep their mouth shut from their friends. They suffer in silence and allows the bullying to escalate.

For kids, being bullied is embarrassing and painful at the same time. Additionally, the reason why they don’t speak up is that they are worried that others will agree with the bully or believe that they deserve the treatment. Besides that, they are also worried that telling someone will only make the situation worse. And this is actually true.

Many signs indicate if someone is affected by bullying. The most critical step is to recognize the warning signs to take any action. Not many children ask for help, whether they are the bully or are being bullied. It’s really important to talk to them and to help them identify the root of the problem.

Here are the signs a child is being bullied

1. Pay attention to your child’s mood

Kids who are being bullied are quite clingy, anxious, sullen or withdrawn. After school or after going online, they may also appear moody or sad. Some of them suffer from low self-esteem and blame themselves for not being good enough. Be aware and look for a significant change in their personality and behavior.

2. Changes in friendships

The signs of bullying, especially in adolescents and teen girls are the loss and changes in friends. A sign of bullying within a group of friends is when your child is reluctant to hang out with her friends.

3. Emotional but intense

It’s a sign if your child is holding anxiety when it comes to conversations about school or social activities. Either way, you will notice an emotional or an unwillingness to dig in into the subject.

4. Torn clothing or physical marks

The signs of playground bullying are when you see ruined, ripped or stolen belongings, with physical bruises. And whenever you ask them about it, they are not able to explain, or for some, they do not want to explain.

5. Having trouble sleeping

Your child will experience difficulty falling asleep because he or she may be nervous or anxious about what might happen the next day at school or anywhere else. If during breakfast, they seemed more tired and worn out than usual, then they might have trouble sleeping at night. An inability to focus or maintain proper hygiene can indicate bullying or depression.

If you think that your child is being bullied, look for the few signs I just stated above. Damage or stolen property are also signs you may want to look into. Dig a little deeper, and you may find that your child is being bullied.
