The 3-D Cake Card
This card is really easy to complete, and can even be done by very young children. All you have to do is prepare several pieces of coloured paper. Cut these coloured paper into strips about 4-5 cm in width. These strips of paper should then be cut 4 cm less than the previous one, in succession. You should prepare at least 4 strips of paper , and begin by sticking the longest strip at the bottom.
Fold the edges of the strips downwards and glue the folds onto the front of birthday card. Subsequently, stick the shorter strips of paper upwards, to form a pyramid shape. Decorate your cake with coloured cut outs that resemble candles, hearts and flowers.
A Pot of Flowers
Here’s another fun card idea you can accomplish with your children. The decoration takes the shape of a flower vase, or in this case, flowers in a watering can. You can start off with making 2-dimensional leaves and a vase by drawing on some coloured paper and then cutting them out.
Next, create 3-dimensional flowers by folding some coloured paper onto itself about 4-5 times until layers develop. Cut a heart shape through the folded paper, and glue the bottom layer to the upper part of the card above your 2-dimensional leaves and vase. This will give the impression of flowers ‘popping’ out from the card’s surface.

Unfortunately for this card project, long and thin pasta won’t be suitable. Try and obtain shapes like Farfalle, Conchiglie, Orecchiette, Rotelle and the like. Next, prepare some food colouring and brushes. Certain food colouring will have to be diluted in water.
Paint the pasta in different food colouring and wait for it to dry. Once dried, you can guide your child to glue them onto the birthday card, while gluing some stiff fabric below the pasta to function like a bouquet wrap.
Simple Layers
Cutting out various shapes and gluing them onto the front of birthday cards in layers is yet another simple yet beautiful idea. Try to ensure that the layers match each other, as well as the card’s background. For instance, you can provide different shades of the same colour.
